Chicken Pox During Pregnancy

Many of us suffer from the dreaded chicken pox as children. But if you were lucky enough to miss out on chicken pox as a child, you may not be so lucky if you get the chicken pox while you’re pregnant. If this is the case within the first half of your pregnancy there is a small 1-2% risk of your baby getting skin scarring, limb malformations and eye problems.

But if you get chicken pox within five days of giving birth your baby can be born with newborn chicken pox. This can be serious but fortunately can be treated. If you think you've been infected with chicken pox, call your practitioner right away.
